Mr. Butzer graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and serves as a Project Manager and Mechanical Engineer at ZMM Architects & Engineers (since 2013).

Mr. Butzer is a registered Professional Engineer in three states including West Virginia. He has been involved in a variety of projects, including Healthcare, Assisted Living, Government, and Education. Mr. Butzer has previous work experience that includes Design Build Construction, 3D Building Information Modelling (BIM), Coordination, and Navisworks Collision Detection.

He is a past president for the West Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), remains active and involved with ASHRAE and the WV Chapter, and he also serves as a Provisional Corresponding Member for ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.6 on Healthcare. He is a past board member of the West Virginia Chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), and he maintains his membership and LEED BD+C specialized certification. He is a member of the WV Society for Healthcare Engineering. He is also a member of the Marshall University Engineering Advisory Board and was influential in establishing an ASHRAE student chapter at the University. He is actively involved in promoting and speaking on energy efficiency education and sustainable design throughout West Virginia.

Mr. Butzer lives in Kanawha City with his wife and three daughters.
