Green Building | Sustainable LEED Certified Design
ZMM is a leader in providing sustainable design services in West Virginia. We are committed to designing and engineering the most energy- and resource-efficient buildings possible that incorporate appropriate site selection, local and recycled content materials, excellent indoor air quality, and innovative design solutions. In short, we are dedicated to improving our clients’ quality of life. We are also engaged in statewide conversations surrounding business practices that meet the triple bottom line, green energy technology, sustainable forestry, economic development, and green building legislation.
ZMM has been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council since 2002 and has had experience with the LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System since its inception. Many of our clients choose to pursue LEED certification. Schools, the military, and government agencies all receive public money and recognize the importance of third-party certification in justifying building expenditures and documented energy savings. We encourage and provide leadership to all clients who are considering LEED certification. In terms of dollars, our LEED registered projects comprise nearly 75% of our work. We have developed a custom spreadsheet that allows the design team and our clients an easy method to track progress, responsibilities, and requirements for each credit in the system. From the initial LEED charrette and brainstorming session, through final documentation, ZMM is involved every step of the way. Our staff of LEED Accredited Professionals includes many of the firm’s principals, architects, engineers, and interior designers – a fully integrated team.
ZMM also partners with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to give out grant funding for schools interested in participating in the Green Apple Day of Service. The Green Apple Day of Service event is an initiative from the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council that brings together advocates from around the world and encourages them to take action in their communities through service projects at local schools.
