Lincoln County High School was one of the first schools designed in WV to employ sustainable design principles.

To formulate a more "comprehensive" approach to this project, the local school system decided to add the vocational school programs.

This allows the students the opportunity to access the vocational classes without leaving the building. Along with the vocational classrooms, some additional programs were added as well. The health occupations lab will operate in conjunction with the doctor's office clinic on-site. Students enrolled within that program will have the opportunity to do "job shadowing" within the clinic setting. The clinic will operate six days a week and 12 months out of the year.

In acknowledgement of today's relationship between education and technology, a fully-integrated computer system is provided throughout the building. Students, as well as faculty, have access to devices throughout the facility in every type of classroom.

In keeping with the high school becoming the focal point of the community, a community college wing was added to the facility. Southern West Virginia Community College will offer classes during the day and evening. Students will have the opportunity to take college classes during the day. The community college's distance learning facility, along with the science and computer lab, will also be accessible to the high school students for daytime classes.

Sustainable Design

The Lincoln County High School building provides a unique learning opportunity for the students. Daylighting, along with automatic lighting controls, provide state-of-the-art technology for students to see how sustainable design, energy conservation, and computerization work together. This facility is one of the first educational buildings in the state of West Virginia to include sustainable building design features.
